CHURCHMAN BROOK DAM - Churchman Brook Road, Bedfordale

Churchman Brook Dam offers a delightful family day out with beautiful scenery, facilities such as large grassed playing area, free gas barbeques, and toilets.

 Built in the 1920's, Churchman Brook provided Perth with a substantial portion of its hills water supply until 1937.

Construction began with the building of a reservior and pipehead on Churchman Brook. Pipehead dams were also built on the upper Canning River at Araluen and on Wungong Brook.

 

CANNING DAM - Lady McNess Drive, Roleystone

A day out at Canning Dam combines scenic beauty with an interesting flavour of Western Australian History. You will find plenty of picnic spots with gas-fired BBQs, a children's playground, toilets and a viewing platform overlooking the reservoir.

The construction of the Canning Dam started in 1933 and was the states biggest public works project during the Great Depression. Officially opened in 1940, it cost more than 1.1 million pounds.

Walking trails around the dam have been specially planned to take you past historic features such as the old contour channel and stilling chamber. The trails are well signposted and range from a short stroll to longer distances for the more energetic. 

The area has abundant birdlife and early morning visitors may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of kangaroos in the surrounding bush.

 

SERPENTINE DAM - Kingsbury Drive, Jarrahdale 

The Serpentine Dam has a large picnic area, free gas barbeques, a playground and toilets. If you prefer a casual meal in a comfortable setting, "Cafe on the Dam" is located near the main car park.

In the late 1950's, due to rapid industrial growth, Perth urgently needed a water source for the Kwinana area. Serpentine River became a potential water supply source, which marked the beginning of the Serpentine Scheme. The dam was completed in 1961, and is one of the biggest dams supplying the Perth metropolitan area.

 

WUNGONG DAM - Admiral Road, Bedfordale

Wungong Dam has magnificent scenery whilst providing a large range of facilities, making it a great attraction. Facilities include free gas barbeques, picnic tables, toilets, grassed area near the entrance which is ideal for family activities.

Wungong Dam began as a small concrete pipehead dam to solve the growing populations water shortage problem. Work on the current dam began in 1975, and was completed in 1979.
