Altruist Furnishings

Altruist Furnishings image

Are you a fan of vintage furniture, upcycling and sustainable living? Then you need to check out Altruist Furnishings!

The business is run by local Kelmscott couple Nicole and Bryce Polmear, who started the business after seeing a large amount of furniture go into landfill that could be repaired. Their philosophy is that no piece of furniture should ever have to go to landfill.

If a piece of furniture can’t be repaired – it can get taken apart completely and the parts can be salvaged and used for something new.

Bryce is a cabinet maker by trade and is skilled in repairing unloved pieces of furniture into an artistic and unique conversation piece for your home. Nicole and Bryce have recently found a workshop in Kelmscott and will soon be able to showcase their pieces. Be sure to check them out on facebook to stay up to date.

If you have furniture you want to get rid of or if you are searching for a unique conversation piece contact Nicole on 0449 191 105 or email .

Tourism jobs leap above 100,000

Tourism image

Tourism is a key economic driver for Western Australia and generates more jobs than traditional industries such as agriculture, forestry and fishing and manufacturing and mining.

New research prepared by Tourism Research Australia revealed that 72,000 people are employed directly by the tourism industry with a further 37,000 employed indirectly. Every $225,000 in overnight visitor spending or 179 overnight visitors to Western Australia, creates one job in the tourism industry.

The State Government has pledged $425 million to destination marketing and events over the next five years in a commitment to tourism’s role in diversifying WA’s economy.

Visit Tourism WA for further research and statistics regarding tourism in WA.
